Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust is delighted to announce the remarkable achievements of its Sixth Form students across three colleges: St. John’s Catholic School & Sixth Form College, Carmel College, and The English Martyrs Catholic School & Sixth Form College. This year’s A-Level results reflect the dedication, hard work, and resilience of our students, supported by the unwavering commitment of our staff and the strong, nurturing communities within our schools.

St. John’s Catholic School & Sixth Form College celebrates a year of impressive outcomes, with over half of all A-Level grades at A* - B. Among the high achievers is Hannah, who secured her place at Durham University to study Archaeology with an A in History, an A in English Language & Literature, and a B in Biology. Hannah’s journey is particularly inspiring as she has been passionate about archaeology from a young age, and her dream of studying at Durham is now a reality. Similarly, Eleanor’s exceptional results, including an A* in Law and A’s in Drama and English Language & Literature, have earned her a place at Southampton University to study Law.

Carmel College has equally impressive stories to share, such as Noah, who arrived from Belgium unable to speak English. Through determination and the support of Carmel’s staff, Noah mastered the language in under a year, achieving A grades in Maths and French, and a B in Further Maths. He will now study Mechanical Engineering at Newcastle University. Another standout student, Rhiannon, secured A*s in Further Maths, Maths, and Physics, and an A in Computer Science, leading her to a place at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University, where she will pursue a degree in Mathematics.

At The English Martyrs Sixth Form College (EMS6), students have excelled across the board, with notable successes among those pursuing competitive university placements. Ryan, who achieved an outstanding A*, A*, A*, will be studying Computer Science at Newcastle University, while Mariella, with her impressive A*, B, B results, will also be heading to Newcastle to study Business Management. The achievements at EMS6 are a testament to the dedication of our students and the expert guidance provided by our staff, who have supported these young people through their academic journeys.

Across all three schools, students have chosen a variety of pathways, from prestigious university placements to apprenticeships and employment. For instance, Holly from EMS6 successfully secured a highly sought-after procurement apprenticeship with Cleveland Fire Brigade, following a rigorous application process. This diversity of destinations reflects the broad range of opportunities and support available within BHCET, ensuring that each student can pursue their individual passions and career aspirations.

In addition to academic success, BHCET schools have also excelled in creative and performing arts. At EMS6, Georgia and Katie have achieved top grades in Art-based subjects, with Georgia earning an A, Distinction*, and Distinction, and Katie securing A*, A*, and Distinction*. Both will continue to develop their artistic talents at the Northern School of Art. Similarly, at St John’s, Zach Elliott has been accepted into Sunderland University to study Performing Arts, overcoming personal challenges with the help of the school’s dedicated support team.

Headteachers from all three schools have expressed their pride in their students’ achievements. Colette Hogarth, Head of School at EMS6, noted, “We are extremely proud of all our students. Their drive and determination have been impressive, and we are pleased that they are able to pursue their intended pathways. I want to thank the students and staff for all their hard work throughout their time at the college.”

Lisa Byron, Headteacher at St. John’s, added, “Our students have demonstrated tremendous resilience and commitment to their studies. They have embraced all that the school has to offer, and we are excited to see how they will grow from strength to strength in the next chapter of their lives.”

Principal Mel Kane of Carmel College echoed these sentiments, stating, “It is a privilege for us at Carmel to work with such wonderful young people. Our small, inclusive Sixth Form ensures that we can support every individual to reach their full potential. We are excited for them as they move on to some fabulous destinations.”

As a Trust, we are incredibly proud of all our Sixth Form students and the outstanding results they have achieved this year. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours and look forward to seeing them continue to thrive and succeed in their chosen paths.
