Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust is a family of schools consisting of 30 Catholic primaries and 5 secondaries, serving the communities of Darlington, County Durham, Stockton and Hartlepool.
The aim of Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust is to provide a practical and moral purpose to the furthering of education, giving strength and a collective responsibility for the educational welfare of pupils in our schools. Pupils are the centre of all decision making and Christ is at the heart of our moral purpose.
Our Trust shapes its collaboration through the fundamental principles of Catholic Social Teaching. School leaders work together for the common good, all pupils feel safe, welcomed and supported with every possible opportunity and staff benefit from a collective approach that respects and values professional agency.
Two primary schools from our Trust, St Charles Catholic Primary School in Spennymoor and St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe, set off together last week for a memorable residential visit to Derwent Hill in the Lake District near Keswick. The pupils shared a coach journey and quickly joined together as one family, ready for a few days of adventure and learning in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.
We are incredibly proud to celebrate the fantastic achievements of students from across Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust, who recently took part in the CyberFirst Girls Competition Regional Finals, hosted at Sage UK. Representing their schools with confidence, enthusiasm and determination, students from St John’s Catholic School & Sixth Form College, Our Lady & St Bede Catholic Academy, and St Michael’s Catholic Academy competed against seven other schools in a series of challenging problem‑solving activities.
On Tuesday 24th March, Carmel College hosted a highly successful Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Super Learning Event, bringing together over 100 Year 11 pupils from all five secondary schools across our Trust.

Our BHCET termly newsletter showcases the incredible achievements, events, and stories from across our Trust community.

We are proud to offer a wide range of enriching opportunities that go beyond the classroom. All children have access to exciting experiences such as trips abroad through the Turing Scheme, participation in athletic events, and engaging Modern Foreign Language days. We also encourage pupil voice through involvement in our Trust-wide Pupil Parliament, ensuring every child has the chance to develop new skills, build confidence, and create lasting memories.
