At St. Michael’s Catholic Academy in Billingham, student voice and leadership are central to the school’s culture. This term, the Academy proudly celebrated Diversity Day - a student-led initiative that reflects its deep commitment to inclusion, belonging, and global awareness. The event was inspired by Theo, a member of the Year 11 student leadership team, who said:

“I wanted to dedicate a day to learning about diversity because it is important for everyone to be aware of the differences that make us, us.”

Students participated in a drop-down day filled with enriching lessons exploring faith, race, and culture, while also raising funds for the charity TimeforTom. More than just a celebration, the day served as a powerful reminder of the values that underpin the school community. The Academy also hosted a vibrant ‘Music Around the World’ Showcase, where students performed pieces inspired by global cultures. The event was a joyful expression of unity through creativity and a testament to the talent and passion nurtured at St. Michael’s.

Beyond the classroom, St. Michael’s continues to offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities that broaden students’ horizons and create lifelong memories. This term alone, Year 10 students journeyed to Iceland, exploring its unique geography and culture. Whilst, Year 11 students are preparing for a trip to New York in February, immersing themselves in one of the world’s most dynamic cities. Students have also enjoyed adventurous activities at Outward Bound, Skiing in France and cultural experiences in London.  These experiences are designed to build confidence, resilience, and a global perspective - qualities that prepare students for life beyond school.
