St. Bede’s Catholic Academy is celebrating a remarkable Ofsted outcome after being awarded “exceptional” and “strong” under Ofsted’s rigorous new inspection framework – a distinction achieved by only a small number of schools nationwide. The school received an ‘exceptional’ rating for behaviour and attendance, alongside ‘strong practice’ in inclusion, personal development and wellbeing, curriculum, teaching, leadership and governance. Early Years provision was judged to be at the expected standard, ensuring children begin their learning journey with secure foundations.
This achievement follows St. Bede’s recent recognition as one of an elite group of schools selected by the Government for their outstanding work in improving attendance and behaviour. Ofsted inspectors described the academy as offering “a warm welcome and a safe place to thrive within its aspirational and caring community.”
Headteacher Bernadette Rizzi-Allan shared her pride in the outcome:
“This is a huge achievement for our whole community and a fantastic testament to our wonderful children and dedicated, hard‑working staff. The high expectations we share with our children allow them to go into the world as confident, compassionate contributors to society. We’re all feeling incredibly proud.”
Inspectors highlighted the school’s exceptional behaviour, noting:
“Pupils’ behaviour across the school is impressive. Classrooms are calm, purposeful places, where learning can flourish. Bullying is extremely rare.”
The report also spotlights St. Bede’s outstanding commitment to inclusion, praising its “unwavering commitment to supporting every pupil” and noting that “inclusion shines out through the school’s work.” Staff were commended for their expertise, dedication and deep knowledge of the children they serve. Inspectors stated:
“Their hard work ensures every child gets an excellent education and the care they need.”
From Early Years to Year 6, the curriculum was celebrated for providing a rich and ambitious learning experience. Younger children were recognised as benefiting from a nurturing environment that lays secure foundations for future learning.
Mrs Rizzi-Allan added:
“At St Bede’s, children are truly at the heart of everything we do. This report reflects the love, effort and dedication that go into their school experience every day. This achievement belongs to every child, every family and every member of staff. Together, we have created something very special.”
Stuart McGhee, Chief Executive of Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust, said:
“As a family of schools, our Catholic ethos and commitment to supporting one another sit at the heart of everything we do. St. Bede’s is a special place to learn and work, and we are delighted that this has been recognised. Our commitment to education extends far beyond our own schools and we are incredibly proud of the work St. Bede’s is doing in the wider community.”
