Students from Our Lady and St Bede Catholic Academy, St Michael’s Catholic Academy, St John’s Catholic School and The English Martys Catholic School came together on Monday 23rd March for this year’s BHCET Panathlon, hosted by The English Martyrs Catholic School in Hartlepool. The event brought pupils together for an exciting afternoon filled with teamwork, challenge, and celebration, as they rotated around ten inclusive and accessible sporting activities.
Activities on the Day
Throughout the afternoon, students took part in a diverse programme of activities designed to encourage participation, build confidence, and showcase individual strengths:
- Archery – Teams worked together to score points by aiming for target zones.
- Standing Long Jump – A test of power and technique, with students taking off from a standing position.
- Speed Bounce – Competitors recorded as many valid bounces as possible within 20 seconds.
- Boccia Blast – Players aimed their boccia balls at a target or skittle to earn points.
- Polybat – A table-based game using lightweight bats and balls to challenge precision and control.
- New Age Kurling – Students slid kurling stones towards a scoring target, focusing on accuracy and strategy.
- Floor Tennis – Rallying on a taped-out mini court encouraged coordination and teamwork.
- Darts – Teams took turns aiming for high‑scoring sections of the dartboard.
- Seated Volleyball – Played from the floor, encouraging agility, communication, and quick reactions.
- Harlem Hoops – Each student had three attempts to score, with a bonus shot for those who made all three.
Each station encouraged students to step outside their comfort zone, try new skills, and enjoy taking part alongside peers from across the Trust. The energy, enthusiasm, and camaraderie on display made the atmosphere incredibly positive throughout the afternoon.
Celebrating Achievement
Every participating student received a medal and certificate in recognition of their fantastic effort and sportsmanship. Their commitment, teamwork, and determination were evident in every activity, making the event a true celebration of inclusive sport.
The day was a great success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved. A huge thank you to the staff, volunteers, and pupils whose hard work and encouragement helped create such a memorable experience for our young people.
