A lifelong passion for helping others has defined one Teesside student’s time at school – and has helped her score a perfect exam mark.

Earlier in the year, Katie, from St Michael’s Catholic Academy, in Billingham, achieved the unbeatable feat of scoring 100 per cent in her Health and Social qualification.

She sat the exam in January, and received the unbelievable full marks result in March.

Today, she picked up another clutch of fantastic results, achieving Grade 9 in English Literature, History and R.E.; Grade 8 in English Language; Grades 7 and 6 in Combined Science; and Grade 5 in Maths.

This is in addition to helping at home to care for her older sister, Vicky, and her work with Eastern Raven Trust – a Stockton charity that works to support young carers.

Katie says: “It has been a bit difficult, sometimes, focusing on both helping and studying, but I’m very pleased with my results.”

Mum, Linda, shed a tear, and said that she was “over the moon” with what Katie has achieved.

Katie’s experiences have led her to speak publicly at conferences and events, including on Young Carer’s Day earlier this year.

Teachers at St Michael’s praised her maturity and confidence, and wish her the best of luck in her next step: studying English Literature, Sociology, and Politics at Stockton Sixth Form College.
