Celebrating Those Who Make a Difference
The Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust Virtues Awards were created to celebrate the young people and adults who make a positive difference in the lives of others through their actions, choices and commitment to our communities.
Rooted in the Trust's values, the awards recognise individuals who embody our eight core virtues:
- Compassion
- Justice
- Confidence
- Resilience
- Honesty
- Respect
- Responsibility
- Self-Belief
The awards provide an opportunity to shine a light on the extraordinary acts of kindness, courage and service that take place every day across our family of schools.
A Celebration of Our Trust Community
The inaugural BHCET Virtues Awards brought together pupils, families, staff, governors, clergy, Directors and community leaders from across the Trust for an evening of recognition and celebration.
Welcoming guests to the event, Chief Executive Officer Stuart McGhee highlighted the significance of the occasion and the impact of those being honoured:
"It is wonderful to see so many people here this evening. To our nominees, their families and friends, our pupils and colleagues from across our schools, our Directors, governors, clergy and special guests, thank you for joining us.
Tonight is a celebration.
There are 80 remarkable nominees represented here this evening, young people and adults whose actions have made a difference to somebody else.
To our nominees, congratulations. From almost 500 nominations, your story was one of those chosen to be shared here tonight."
With almost 500 nominations received from across the Trust, the response demonstrated the countless ways in which people are living out our virtues every day. From those supporting friends through difficult times and overcoming personal challenges, to colleagues and volunteers who go above and beyond for others, every nomination told a powerful story.
Recognising Excellence
Awards are presented to both young people and adults in each of the eight virtue categories. Shortlisted nominees receive a commemorative certificate and Virtues Awards pin badge in recognition of their achievement, before category winners are announced.
The awards celebrate those who:
- Show kindness and compassion towards others
- Stand up for what is right
- Demonstrate resilience in the face of challenges
- Inspire confidence and self-belief
- Take responsibility within their communities
- Treat others with honesty, respect and dignity
Above all, the Virtues Awards recognise people whose actions make a lasting and positive difference to those around them.
Celebrating the Whole Person
The Virtues Awards are about more than individual achievements. They are an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of community that exists across Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust.
The evening includes performances from talented young people across our schools, as well as special recognition of outstanding achievements that reflect the values and aspirations of our Trust family.
From acts of quiet kindness to remarkable accomplishments, the awards showcase what can be achieved when people live out our virtues every day.
A Message from Deputy CEO Donna Hubbard-Young
"Our first Trust Virtues Awards evening was a truly special celebration of the people who make our schools and communities such wonderful places to learn, work and belong.
We were overwhelmed by the number and quality of nominations received from across our Trust. Every nomination told a powerful story and highlighted the kindness, courage and dedication that can be found in all corners of our school community.
The evening gave us the opportunity to recognise those who consistently put others first, overcome challenges with resilience, stand up for what is right and make a positive difference to the lives of those around them. We are incredibly proud of every nominee and award winner."
Living Our Virtues Every Day
The BHCET Virtues Awards remind us that making a difference does not always involve grand gestures. Often, it is the everyday acts of kindness, courage, respect and service that have the greatest impact.
By celebrating these individuals, we recognise the values that sit at the heart of Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust and inspire others to live out our virtues in their own schools, communities and lives.
