Bishop Auckland Town Council hosted their prestigious Youth Awards 2024 at Bishop Auckland Town Hall on Monday, June 24, 2024. The event aimed to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of young people in Bishop Auckland. St. John’s Catholic School was honoured to have a remarkable presence at the event, with seven individual winners and two group winners among the awardees.

The individual award winners from St. John's are as follows:

  • WOW Award: Anna Thompson
  • Young Person Act of Bravery: Milana Dolia
  • Inspirational Young Person: Katie Brooks-Shea
  • Community Hero: Jack Sparke and Abigail Bramfitt
  • Horizon Award: Lydia-Rose Westgarth
  • Overcoming Personal Difficulties: Lucy Clark

 

In addition to these individual honours, St. John’s Choir and St. John's Sixth Form Enterprise Group were recognised with the Team of the Year Youth Arts Award. Moreover, students from St. John's represented their Youth Group, AYCC (Auckland Youth and Community Centre), which won the Team of the Year Community Award.

The event began with a red-carpet welcome, where the winners and their families were greeted by the Deputy Mayor Councillor Sam Zair, a proud former student of St. John's. Attendees enjoyed a delightful drinks reception followed by a sumptuous afternoon tea.

The awards evening was hosted by the charismatic Channy Thompson, a TikTok sensation, who entertained the audience with her heartfelt words, humour, and music. The event was generously sponsored by local businesses and organisations. Individual winners received £100 vouchers, and the winning groups were awarded £250 for their school.
