Students across BHCET have celebrated outstanding GCSE results, with several young achievers making headlines for their exceptional performances in both academics and extracurricular activities.

St. John’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College witnessed remarkable success with students like pianist Jonny Li, 16, from West Auckland, who achieved six Grade 9s and four Grade 8s. Jonny, renowned for his classical performances at school events, will continue his studies at St. John’s, pursuing A levels in Computer Science, Physics, Maths, and Chemistry. His ambition is to read a degree at Durham University and eventually pursue a master’s degree at Cambridge. Reflecting on his success, Jonny said, “It is a great school. Staff are really supportive, and if you ask for any resources, they will always deliver.”

Fellow St. John’s student, animal-loving artist Aimee Carville, also excelled, securing nine GCSEs, including two 9s and five 8s. Aimee plans to study A levels in Biology, Geography, English, and possibly Art at St. John’s Sixth Form. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “Teachers are really supportive, and I can’t thank them enough because they have helped me get where I am today.” Her mother, Michelle, added, “I think St. John’s brings the very best out of our children.”

Headteacher Lisa Byron shared her pride in the school’s achievements, stating, “These are the school’s best-ever results, and we are overwhelmed with the amazing achievements of our young people. They have shown tremendous resilience and determination despite the challenges of COVID. We can’t wait to see how our students soar to even greater heights at St. John’s Sixth Form and beyond.”

St. Michael’s Catholic Academy celebrated the success of students like Sonny Edmenson, who, despite Asperger’s and ADHD, gained 11 GCSEs. Sonny will continue his studies with A levels in Maths, Economics, and Art. “From day one, I was treated normally at St. Michael’s, and I have flourished,” said Sonny, highlighting the supportive environment.

Talented singer Rubie Riach also shone, achieving top grades before heading to perform in London’s West End. “St. Michael’s has been very supportive of my music, and I’d love to end up on the stage one day,” Rubie shared, reflecting on her time at the school.

Carmel College saw top-performing student Eleandra Origlia achieve seven Grade 9s and three Grade 8s. With ambitions of a career in biomedical engineering, Eleandra will study A levels in Maths, Physics, Biology, and French. She expressed her interest in pursuing biomedicine, saying, “I like the idea of making things to help people.”

Gregor Marsland, another standout student at Carmel, excelled both academically and in sport, earning nine GCSEs, including a 9 in Maths. A dedicated water polo player, Gregor has played for Team GB and aims to compete in the European Championships in 2028. He will study A levels in Biology, Chemistry, and Maths at Carmel Sixth Form.

Principal Mel Kane praised the students, stating, “Our students and staff worked so hard preparing for these examinations, and I am thrilled they have been rewarded with outcomes that surpass national and regional ones. It is great that the vast majority will continue their Carmel journey in our sixth form.”

Our Lady and St. Bede Catholic Academy, England tumbler Lani Ravenhall secured seven GCSEs, including two 9s, and will study A levels in Maths, Business, and PE. Lani has her sights set on moving to Spain to pursue a career as a personal trainer or independent travel agent.

Cricketer Alex Hall, another star student at Our Lady and St. Bede, achieved eight GCSEs, including two 9s, and plans to study A levels in Computer Science, Geography, and Economics. A member of Stockton Cricket Club, Alex has also been active in promoting the sport among younger students.

Headteacher Mo Wilkinson expressed her delight in the students’ achievements, stating, “This year group has truly embodied our school virtues. We wish them every success in their future endeavours and can’t wait to hear about their future achievements.”

The English Martyrs Catholic School also celebrated exceptional results, with students like Civ Kersavan and Ellie McCarthy achieving top grades. Civ earned 11 Grade 9s, while Ellie achieved six Grade 9s and five Grade 8s. Both will continue their studies at EMS6, with Civ focusing on Biology, Chemistry, and Maths, and Ellie on Maths, Further Maths, and Chemistry.

Head of School Colette Hogarth commented, “We are extremely proud of all our students and delighted that many of them will continue their journey with us into Sixth Form. We wish all of our students the best of luck in the future.”
