St. Michael’s Catholic Academy is proud to announce the completion of a cutting-edge 3G all-weather pitch. Work on the million-pound project began on 15th July 2024 and was successfully completed on 15th November 2024, following over two years of meticulous planning.
The facility, designed to provide year-round opportunities for sports and physical education, represents a significant investment in the health, well-being, and development of the academy’s students.
The project was delivered through a partnership involving:
- Cleveland Land Services (CLS)
- Notts Sports
- Stockton Borough Council, with design services and project management led by Gary Laybourne.
With a total cost exceeding £1.1 million, the pitch is a testament to the dedication and vision of everyone involved. It is designed to meet modern sporting standards, offering a safe, durable, and high-quality playing surface that can withstand all weather conditions.
Speaking at the launch of the new facility, Clare Humble, Headteacher of St. Michael’s Catholic Academy, expressed her gratitude and excitement:
"I am absolutely delighted to take ownership of this fabulous new facility on behalf of the children at St. Michael's Catholic Academy. The students have been so patient in waiting for the new pitch to be completed from when we started planning it just over two years ago, and I am so happy to see them enjoying it.
My sincere thanks go to all the team that have been involved in the process—the contractors, Notts Sports and Cleveland Land Services, Stockton Borough Council, and the Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust. I particularly want to thank Mrs. Helen Keough, the previous Head, whose persistence ensured this project came to life. Here's to a new chapter for P.E at St. Michael's!"
The new 3G pitch not only enhances the school’s physical education curriculum but also opens the door to potential community partnerships, making it a valuable resource for the local area.
