On Thursday 10th July 2025, Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust hosted its third annual Athletics Competition at Middlesbrough Sports Village – an event that continues to grow in scale, excitement and achievement.
This year marked a significant milestone as primary school pupils were welcomed to compete for the very first time. Winners from each of our Trust schools’ in-house athletics events came together to represent their schools with pride and determination, joining students from across our secondary academies for a full day of competition on both track and field.
From sprints to relays, long jump to javelin, the standard of performance was exceptional. Trust records were broken, and students displayed not only outstanding athleticism but also the Trust virtues of resilience, self-belief, respect and confidence throughout the day.
There was a fantastic atmosphere as students and staff cheered from the stands – celebrating personal bests, close finishes and moments of true sportsmanship.
The event concluded with the presentation of medals and trophies, including:
- U13 Girls Winner: English Martyrs
- U13 Boys Winner: Carmel College
- U15 Girls Winner: Carmel College
- U15 Boys Winner: Carmel College
- Overall School Champions: Carmel College
Martin Featherstone, Director of Secondary School Improvement said “The BHCET Athletics Event was another fantastic success and a true celebration of student talent. Watching our young people excel in their events and interact so positively with one another is exactly what this event is all about. It’s a brilliant opportunity for students to shine outside the classroom and for those with a passion and gift for sport to showcase their skills to a wider audience. We’re proud to provide these moments for our students to grow in confidence, sportsmanship and ambition.”
We are incredibly proud of all who took part and represented their schools so well. Thank you to all the staff and Middlesbrough Sports Village for helping make the day such a success. We look forward to next year’s competition as we continue to grow our Trust-wide sporting offer – giving every child the opportunity to shine.
