For many pupils, the move from primary to secondary school can feel like stepping into a completely new world. New buildings, new routines, new teachers and a whole host of new opportunities. Within our Trust, we recognise just how important this transition is, and we are committed to making it a positive, exciting and confidence-building experience for every child.

In the final months of primary school, something special begins to happen. Classrooms fill with anticipation as pupils are invited to their feeder secondary schools for transition and taster days. Instead of simply hearing about secondary education, they experience it firsthand.

During these transition days, children take part in a wide range of activities designed to ignite curiosity and build confidence. In science labs, they may carry out exciting experiments they’ve never encountered before, sparking a love for discovery and innovation. On the sports fields, they join in team games and challenges, building friendships and developing a sense of belonging. In specialist classrooms, they experience lessons that go beyond the primary curriculum, offering a taster of subjects and skills that lie ahead.

Perhaps most importantly, pupils begin to form connections. They meet teachers who will guide and inspire them in the years to come, putting names to faces and building familiarity in what once felt like an unknown space. They meet other pupils, some from their own primary school, others from across our Trust, all sharing the same journey.

This is where being part of our Trust makes a real difference, because our schools work closely together, the transition is not just a single event, but a carefully planned and supported process. Primary and secondary staff collaborate to ensure pupils feel known, understood and prepared. Information is shared, relationships are built early, and every child is supported as an individual. For us, transition isn’t just about moving schools, it’s about opening doors, building belonging, and helping every child realise they are ready for what comes next.
