On Tuesday 24th March, Carmel College hosted a highly successful Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Super Learning Event, bringing together over 100 Year 11 pupils from all five secondary schools across our Trust.

Running from 3-6pm, the event was designed to strengthen pupils’ confidence and skills in Spanish and French, supporting their preparation for the upcoming GCSE examinations. The objective was clear: to extend the existing Year 11 MFL masterclasses and focus on the key areas of learning that can make a real difference in attainment - delivered collaboratively across our Trust schools.

A Carousel of Engaging Workshops

Pupils took part in an exciting carousel of workshops covering:

  • Writing development
  • Translation tasks (Translation Station)
  • Escape room–style problem solving
  • Speaking activities designed to be both fun and confidence-building

Each session began with essential knowledge and understanding of the topic, followed by active learning tasks enabling pupils to apply what they had learned directly to exam-style questions.

Outstanding Attitude and Engagement

Despite the event taking place in the early evening, the behaviour, focus and enthusiasm of pupils were exceptional. Their commitment to learning - and the impressive standard of their language skills - shone through in every session. It was a brilliant example of young people going above and beyond to prepare for success.

Thank You

A special thank you goes to Sarah Marshall, Director of MFL, for organising and delivering the event. Her leadership and passion for languages were central to the day’s success. Thank you also to the dedicated MFL teachers from across our Trust, who led workshops and supported pupils throughout.

This collaborative approach demonstrates the strength of working together across our Trust to deliver innovative, high-quality learning experiences for our students. We are incredibly proud of all who took part.
