Students from across Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust’s five secondary schools came together for a vibrant celebration of languages, culture and history, showcasing their work on the renowned El Camino pilgrimage.
As part of a cross-school project, students have been exploring the rich heritage of El Camino, researching the lives and journeys of pilgrims from more than 500 years ago. Their work demonstrated not only strong linguistic skills, but also a deep appreciation for cultural traditions and historical storytelling.
The event was made even more special by the presence of two distinguished guests: Manuel Mirás Franqueira, a prominent Galician politician, and Cristóbal Ramírez, a respected Spanish journalist and recognised expert on El Camino. Their insights brought the project to life, offering students a unique opportunity to connect their learning with real-world perspectives.
During the event, Manuel Mirás Franqueira and Cristóbal Ramírez presented certificates to runners-up and awarded Amazon voucher prizes to one outstanding student from each school. The quality of work and dedication shown by all participants was exceptional.
Students represented their schools brilliantly throughout the day, delivering confident and engaging presentations and fully immersing themselves in the cultural sessions that followed. The event highlighted not only their academic achievements, but also their enthusiasm, curiosity and respect for international culture.
A special thank you goes to St John’s Catholic School & Sixth Form for hosting the event and providing a welcoming setting for this celebration of student success.
Events like this continue to demonstrate BHCET’s commitment to enriching education through cultural experiences, language learning and opportunities that inspire students beyond the classroom.
